The most noticeable damage to this area is graffiti. What you see today is an accumulation of graffiti over many years. Graffiti is a magnet for more graffiti and in some places new graffiti is found on top of old graffiti.
Unfortunately, vandals have painted over petroglyphs (pecked images) or in areas around them. This requires specially trained individuals and volunteers to delicately remove. Even if successful in removing the paint, the site will never be able to be completely restored. It is likely, as graffiti remediation efforts continue, some graffiti will be left in place because removal efforts will only damage the petroglyphs more.
Efforts will continue on a regular basis to remove as much graffiti as possible while preserving the integrity of the petroglyphs.
Signage with reference to this website will ask visitors to help protect the area from further damage.
Law enforcement will continue to monitoring the area, which is currently closed to the general public.
