The most noticeable damage to this area is graffiti. This photo shows graffiti that accrued over 30 years. Graffiti is a magnet for more graffiti. In 2023, as graffiti remediation efforts were in progress, the area continued to be vandalized.
Unfortunately, vandals have painted over petroglyphs (pecked images) or in areas around them. This requires specially trained individuals and volunteers to delicately remove. Even if successful in removing the paint, the site will never be able to be completely restored. The photo shows the area after graffiti remediation efforts in 2023.
Now that the area has had the majority of paint graffiti removed, there is hope that vandalism will decrease. It is important that individuals do not attempt graffiti remediation because it is easy to cause further damage or destruction to rock writings.
White signage with reference to this website has been installed around this amazing area and asks visitors to help protect the area from further damage.
Law enforcement will continue to monitoring the area, which is currently closed to the general public.
